What is Hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy is a natural state of focused attention and deep relaxation, where your mind becomes highly receptive to positive suggestions. It's not sleep, but rather a heightened state of awareness where you remain in control. In this state, we can work with your subconscious mind to re-pattern limiting beliefs, integrate positive behaviors, and release emotional blocks, leading to lasting change.
What Hypnotherapy is NOT:
When most people hear the word “hypnosis” they think of swinging watches and the hypnotists telling someone to bark like a dog or cluck like a chicken on command. While that kind of hypnosis does exist, it is for the sole purposes of entertainment that you would find on the stages of a Las Vegas show. This is very different from clinical hypnotherapy. You are completely alert and in full control of your mind and body while in the hypnotic state. You can hear, speak, and even walk around. Your body is relaxed and comfortable. You will never be asked to disclose any secrets or do anything you do not want to do. I use hypnosis strictly as a healing tool.
Does Hypnotherapy really work?
Absolutely. In recent years hypnosis and hypnotherapy has become an accepted medical treatment to address a wide variety of issues and conditions. Researchers and professors in universities such as Stanford, Harvard, and Penn State, just to name a few, have conducted clinical studies in hypnosis and found that hypnosis does in fact alter the brain and can be used for a multitude of conditions. I have been extremely successful in using hypnotherapy to help our clients with a multitude of issues including improving self confidence, helping them to stop smoking, achieving significant weight loss, reducing or even eliminating anxiety. Hypnotherapy is an extremely powerful and effective tool and its results are long lasting.
How does Hypnosis work?
When you are in a hypnotic state, your conscious mind has been relaxed. This allows the hypnotherapist to work directly with your subconscious mind. The subconscious mind holds all of our “programming”, much like a computer. You can “know” in your conscious mind that you want to make a change and be determined to make that change, but if your "computer is programmed” to keep doing what you are doing it will be nearly impossible to make lasting change unless you change the programming. That’s precisely what hypnotherapy will accomplish. When you change the subconscious programming the behavior follows.
What does Hypnosis feel like?
Hypnosis is a very comfortable, peaceful and pleasant feeling. Your body is extremely relaxed but your mind is aware. You will feel a sense of rejuvenation and feel refreshed after a hypnotherapy session.
Will I loose control of myself?
Absolutely not! Hypnotherapy is a way of giving you more control, not less. You cannot be hypnotized unwillingly, and you cannot be prompted to do something that is outside of your moral code or say or reveal anything you do not want to.
Can I get stuck in hypnosis?
No, you are able to come out of hypnosis any time you wish. You can no more get “stuck” in hypnosis than you can get “stuck” awake or “stuck” asleep. … For practical reasons, as hypnotherapists we do explicitly end our clients’ trances, but if we didn’t the clients would naturally either return to full alertness or fall asleep.
What is NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming)?
NLP is a powerful approach that explores the connection between neurological processes ("neuro"), language ("linguistic"), and behavioral patterns learned through experience ("programming"). It provides tools and techniques to understand how you think, communicate, and behave, allowing you to reframe limiting beliefs, improve communication, and achieve desired outcomes more effectively.
What is an NLP Practitioner?
An NLP Practitioner is someone trained in Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) techniques to help individuals improve their thoughts, behaviors, and communication. They use NLP tools to guide clients in enhancing their emotional well-being, creativity, and productivity. Essentially, they help people achieve personal and professional goals by understanding how the mind works and how to create positive change.
What is EFT Tapping (Emotional Freedom Technique)?
EFT Tapping is a simple yet powerful self-help technique that involves gently tapping on specific meridian points on the body while focusing on a particular issue or emotion. This process helps to calm the nervous system and release emotional blockages, reducing stress, anxiety, pain, and other forms of emotional discomfort.
What is Transpersonal Psychosynthesis?
Transpersonal Psychosynthesis is a holistic psychological approach that integrates spiritual and psychological dimensions. It goes beyond personal ego to explore higher aspects of human experience, helping individuals discover their true purpose, connect with their authentic self, and actualize their highest potential. It's about finding meaning and purpose in your life.
What is Therapeutic Imagery?
Therapeutic Imagery involves guiding you through structured visualization exercises to promote relaxation, facilitate healing, achieve personal goals, and cultivate positive mental states. By creating vivid mental images, you can engage your subconscious mind to support desired changes and outcomes.
What is Therapeutic Journaling?
Therapeutic journaling is a powerful tool for personal transformation, going beyond simple diary-keeping. It’s an intentional practice that helps you process your thoughts and emotions to create lasting, positive change. By putting your feelings on paper, you can safely explore and release emotions related to difficult experiences, reframe your story to gain clarity and a sense of empowerment, and improve your overall well-being. This method of expressive writing can help you tap into your inner wisdom and take control of your personal journey.
What is Intuitive Energy Healing?
Intuitive Energy Healing is a gentle, non-invasive approach focused on balancing and clearing the body's subtle energy field (often referred to as the aura or chakras). The practitioner senses and redirects energy to release blockages and restore harmony, promoting physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. It supports deep relaxation, reduces stress, and enhances your natural healing capabilities.
How do these modalities work together at Karmic Life Design?
At Karmic Life Design, we believe in an integrated approach. While each modality is powerful on its own, combining them allows for a more comprehensive and personalized path to well-being. For example, hypnotherapy might address subconscious beliefs, while EFT helps release emotional charge, and energy healing balances your energetic system, creating a synergistic effect for profound transformation.
What are Hypno-Diagnostic Tools?
These are unique methods integrated into our sessions to gain deeper insights into your subconscious patterns and accelerate your journey. Q: What can I expect in a Hypnotherapy session? A: A session typically begins with a conversation about your goals and concerns. Then, you'll be guided into a state of deep relaxation and focused attention, often through gentle verbal cues. While in this state, positive suggestions aligned with your goals are introduced to your subconscious mind. You'll remain comfortable and aware throughout the session, and will be gently guided back to full alertness at the end.
Q: Will I be in control during hypnosis? A: Absolutely. You are always in control during hypnotherapy. It's not mind control; it's a collaborative process. You cannot be made to do or say anything against your will or moral code. You can choose to accept or reject suggestions, and you can emerge from the hypnotic state at any time.
Q: Can anyone be hypnotized? A: Most people can be hypnotized, as hypnosis is a natural state that we all experience daily (e.g., daydreaming, being absorbed in a book or movie). The key is a willingness to participate and allow yourself to relax and focus. It's not about being weak-minded; in fact, it often requires a strong ability to focus.
Q: What if I fall asleep during hypnosis? A: While hypnotherapy involves deep relaxation, it's not the same as sleep. If you were to fall asleep, the session would simply become a restful nap, and you wouldn't be as receptive to the therapeutic suggestions. Your practitioner will guide you to maintain a state of focused awareness.
Q: Is Hypnotherapy safe? A: Yes, hypnotherapy is a safe and natural modality when practiced by a certified and ethical professional. There are no known negative side effects.
Q: What's the difference between hypnotherapy and stage hypnosis? A: Stage hypnosis is for entertainment, often involving highly suggestible individuals performing for an audience. Clinical hypnotherapy, on the other hand, is a therapeutic tool used in a professional setting to help individuals achieve specific personal goals and overcome challenges. The focus is entirely on your well-being and desired transformation.
Q: Why do you test my suggestibility? A: In Kappasinian hypnosis, testing your suggestibility is not about determining if you can be hypnotized. Instead, it's a foundational step to understand how you uniquely process information.
Dr. John Kappas, the founder of the Hypnosis Motivation Institute (HMI), developed a system based on two distinct types of suggestibility: "Emotional" and "Physical." Emotional suggestibles (or analyticals) tend to process information inferentially, reading between the lines and sometimes double-guessing suggestions. Physical suggestibles are more literal and take suggestions at face value.
By using suggestibility tests, a Kappasinian hypnotherapist can identify where a client falls on this spectrum. This information is crucial because it allows the therapist to tailor the language, induction techniques, and suggestions to match the client's specific suggestibility type. This personalized approach is what makes Kappasinian hypnosis so effective, as it ensures that the suggestions are received and absorbed by the subconscious mind in the most comfortable and impactful way for that individual.
